The IIA Public Sector Development Committee is excited to present a breakfast seminar that will focus on lean practices and principles and how they can be applied to our internal audits. Many public sector organizations are being asked to do more (or at least the same) with less funding, significantly increasing costs from inflation and we’re seeing greater demand from the public on service quality. There is an important role internal auditors can play in helping their organizations navigate these resource constraints.

Lean is a framework for driving quality and innovation, helping organizations identify opportunities to improve quality, reduce costs and increase efficiencies in the way processes are undertaken. Applying lean thinking in internal audits can help to improve quality and productivity through focusing upon customer value. It empowers people to take action and make changes in the way that people work.

In this session, we will cover

  • An introduction to lean, what it is, and why we use it
  • Examples of when lean has been applied to internal audits, the outcomes and benefits to organizations.

Alex Matos, Director of Internal Audit, University of Toronto
Deepak Jaswal, Senior Manager, MNP LLP
Paula Hatt, Senior Manager, Regional Internal Audit, Toronto & Area School Boards
